To obtain valid results, the grinding characteristics of the ore must be well understood, and parameters such as the Ball Milling Work Index (BWI), Rod Milling Work Index (RWI), Crushing Work Index (CWI), feed top size/distribution, and the desired product size distribution must be known.
The first part of this process involves standard application equations. These calculations determine the power which must be applied at the mill drive to grind the ore — at the specified feed rate — from one size distribution to another. We can then help you to select a mill that develops the required power.
Outotec's engineers use sophisticated application software to perform these complex calculations. The application parameters can be further verified with pilot scale grinding tests on prepared ore samples. These tests offer the greatest possible assurance that the grinding circuit selected will perform as predicted.
