Silver electrolysis

Outotec supplies well-proven technology for silver electrolysis. We can provide our customers with a complete material handling stream including post-electrolysis functions.

In order to separate silver from gold and platinum, Doré anodes are electrolytically processed in Moebius cells at current densities as high as 1000A/m2. Silver dissolves in the nitric electrolyte and precipitates as crystals which are scraped from the cathodes. Gold mud is collected in bags that surround the anodes. This mud contains gold, platinum metals and silver.

Silver crystals are removed from the Moebius cells by flushing the electrolyte through a sieve-tank, then washed, dried, melted and cast into bars or granules. The residual anode slime containing gold and platinum group metals are taken to further refining.
