Millsense®

The charge position and volume are fundamental factors that affect the state of the grinding process and provide crucial insight on the conditions inside the mill. Along with mill rotation speed, charge characteristics can be used to maximize the breakage energy and therefore optimize the grinding efficiency.

In addition, charge volume is an essential measurement to avoid overloading and underloading, which can cause cuts in ore feed and severe damage to the lining and mill shell. Therefore, a real-time mill charge analyzer is an indispensable part of a modern advanced grinding control system. In addition to the charge volume, MillSense® can also estimate the ball charge, liner wear and grinding media trajectories, which can be used to further characterize and optimize the circuit.

While some charge measurement systems exist, they typically include sensors on or even inside the mill. The advantages of MillSense® over these systems lies in simpler hardware, non-wearing parts, liner type independency, and low maintenance needs. A single unit can analyze multiple mills and provides the results via the integrated OPC Server while historical data is obtainable from the SQL Database. The analyzer status can be viewed from integrated web server, which can also be used for on-line trending and accessing the database.
