Economic responsibility

As a listed company Outotec is committed to increasing shareholder value of its owners by developing and maintaining competitive and profitable operations based on ethical business practices. Outotec applies principles of good corporate governance and transparent accounting.

Outotec’s operations have economic impacts on the local, national and global communities in which the company operates. The company contributes to the community well-being through paying taxes, through direct and indirect employment, and other ways of community involvement.

Social responsibility

Outotec treats people in an equal and fair manner regardless of their ethnic origin, nationality, religion, political views, sex, sexual orientation, or age.  The company is committed to providing its employees with a healthy and safe working environment. The health of the personnel and their well-being at work are important preconditions for Outotec’s success in day-to-day operations as well as its long-term competitiveness. Continuous development of personnel is the core of Outotec’s human resources policy.

Environmental responsibility

Outotec’s continuous strive to add value to business by technology is based on the sustainable development principles. Outotec is committed to developing and supplying environmentally sound technologies and solutions for its customers, and on the other hand, to promote the use of clean technologies in minerals and metallurgical processing.

Sustainable technologies for the customers

With decades-long uninterrupted process and equipment development, Outotec has been in a position to build comprehensive chains of technology that cover the entire path from ore to metal. This way, it has been able to ensure that the chains have no weak links that could compromise their high environmental requirements.

The areas of sustainability where Outotec continuously seeks to find better solutions and production methods for its customers are effective use of raw materials, reduced water and energy consumption, minimal harmful emissions to the environment, and safe and clean working environment in the plants Outotec designs and delivers. Outotec is committed to work with its customers and network of partners to develop technologies to meet the environmental requirements.

The environmental perspective is included in all Outotec’s product development projects. As a result, many of the technologies developed by Outotec have become industry benchmarks and have been rated by European Union as best existing, economically viable techniques with regard to the environment.

Developing own operations

Although the environmental impacts of Outotec’s own operations are relatively small, the company supports initiatives for example to reduce the amount of traveling by utilizing modern communication technologies, to minimize the use of office paper and energy, and to enhance the recycling of waste.

Outotec Research Center in Pori, Finland, is certified with ISO 14001 environmental management system, an international standard demonstrating Outotec's commitment to work towards a better environment also in its own operations.
